White Paper insight
Packaging and sustainability
To complement the White Paper, we have developed four thematic Insights that highlight the most strategic topics—ESG, packaging, consulting, and non-financial reporting—enhancing key content through data and numbers . Each Insight concludes with a focus on current events , connecting the topics to the latest regulatory developments and market evolutions, offering companies concrete insights for interpreting the context and anticipating change.
The new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), published in January 2025, introduces a regulatory framework designed to structurally transform the entire packaging supply chain. The measure establishes binding packaging waste reduction targets : -5% by 2030, -10% by 2035, and -15% by 2040 for each Member State. These progressive objectives require companies to concretely review their processes, materials, and distribution models.
In light of these new thresholds, we analyze companies’ positioning, assessing their level of compliance, the strategies adopted, and the main critical issues in implementing the required measures.
The company profile that is driving the most change is...
… that of Consulting Support Seekers. These are organizations that have already structured the sustainability function internally, often with dedicated teams and senior figures such as the Chief Sustainability Officer. However, the segment with the most significant growth potential is that of Price Sensitives : although they currently display a lower level of maturity, they demonstrate a growing propensity for activation .
